Manufacturing Excellence at Carbon Activated Corp Lanka

The Production Process
Activated carbon is meticulously produced from coconut shells, wood, coal, and other carbonaceous sources. Through a superheating process known as pyrolysis, pure carbon is extracted, leading to the creation of activated carbon.
Throughout the manufacturing process, we collect samples at various stages and test them in our labs to ensure consistent quality.
The final product’s characteristics are influenced by:
- The type of raw material used
- The duration and rate of the activation reaction
- The reaction temperature
- The type and concentration of oxidizing gases
Our activated carbon is designed to meet the needs of over 300 different applications across a wide variety of industries, guaranteeing exceptional quality every time.
Our Rotary Kiln in Sri Lanka
Central to our production is the rotary kiln, a large, slow-rotating cylindrical tube lined with fireclay bricks. Measuring 20 meters in length and 2.4 meters in diameter, this kiln is the heart of our activation process.
Raw material is continuously fed into the rotary kiln from a hopper, where it is gradually turned and carbonized. As air is blown into the kiln, the material reacts with hot steam, raising the internal temperature to between 900-1100ºC. This high-temperature environment activates the carbon by creating pores on its internal surface, enhancing its adsorptive capacity.
The activation process takes 25-40 minutes, depending on the temperature and oxygen levels. The activated carbon then passes through a screw conveyor with a cooling jacket, where its temperature is reduced to 200ºC before it is further cooled in a secondary kiln to 30-40ºC. After this, the material is fed into a sizing machine, where it is sorted and packed into bulk bags for storage.
